Men's Lacrosse Blanks Houghton 18-0

Cazenovia, N.Y. - The Cazenovia College men's lacrosse team scored early and often in an 18-0 shutout victory over Houghton College. The win evens the Wildcats record at 2-2 while Houghton drops to 1-4 on the season.

Senior Matt Carson (Stratford, CT) had a career day by winning three face offs in addition to scooping three ground balls en route to earning the game ball from the Cazenovia coaching staff. On the offensive end of the turf, eight different Wildcats scored goals in the opening half as Cazenovia raced out to a  15-0 lead at the mid-way point of the contest.

Houghton never let down in the second stanza as the Wildcats only outscored their opponents 3-0 in the half, leading to the final score of 18-0. Pat Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y.) earned the victory in goal for Cazenovia, but combined with freshman Joe Harrison (Troy, N.Y.) for the shutout.

Junior Brandon Anthony (Cicero, N.Y.) led the way for Cazenovia with four goals. Taylor Hastrich (Horseheads, N.Y.), Kyle Kingsley (Potsdam, N.Y.), and Vincent Halsey (Oneida, N.Y.) each ripped the net for three scores, while Hastrich and Kingsley dished out 3 and 2 helpers respectively.

Brent Brearley (Vestal, N.Y.), Tim Mellon (Temple, N.Y.), and field general Cory Tilton (Central Square, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Cazenovia tallying one goal a piece. Tilton also handed out three assists.

The Wildcats defense stymied the Houghton attack throughout the duration of the contest thanks to the outstanding play of Cazenovia defenders Alex Marranca (Buffalo, N.Y.) (four ground balls and three caused turnovers) and Mike Karderinis (Castle Creek, N.Y.) (six ground balls and two caused turnovers).

The Wildcats get a week to prepare for their next contest next Saturday when they host Hartwick College at 1:00pm on Christakos Field.
