Canton, NY – The Cazenovia College men's lacrosse team outscored SUNY Canton 16-12 in a hard fought non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats held a convincing lead heading into the final stanza and took the opportunity to give their reserves quality game experience. The Roos would not go down without a fight, however, and scored five goals in the final 3:13 of clock time to make the game a little more competitive.
Eric Hanover (Gilford, NH) led Cazenovia (6-3, 1-3 NEAC) with 5 goals, while Kyle Kingsley (Potsdam, NY) and Brandon Maxson (Homer, NY) each posted a hat trick on the afternoon. Joe Delia (Baldwinsville, NY) paced the Wildcats with 5 assists while picking up 6 ground balls.
Mike Helak (Buffalo, NY) dominated the Roos on defense causing 4 turnovers and collecting 5 groundballs despite limited playing time. Goalie Pat Boyle (Syracuse, NY) notched another victory in between the pipes for Cazenovia while collecting 11 saves on the day.
SUNY Canton (3-6) scored the first two goals of the contest to lead 2-0 after one minute of play. The Wildcats would respond tallying the next five markers and led 6-3 after one.
Thanks to stringent defense by Cazenovia the Roos faced a scoring drought in the second stanza as they were held without a single goal while Cazenovia beat the goalie seven times in the period. The Wildcats led 13-3 at intermission and cruised to the 16-12 victory in the second half.
The Wildcats host their final home game of the season this Saturday against NEAC foe Wells College. Action begins at 2 pm.
