The Wildcats traveled to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Saturday March 22nd to face Kings College, resulting in a tough game sending the ladies home with a close defeat of 14-12.
Kim Vrigian along with Kaitlin Sheppard both scored early giving the Wildcats an early 2-0 lead, which was quickly followed by 3 goals putting Kings ahead by 1. Cassie Smock assisted Daejah Werntz with a goal that would tie the game up at 3. Kings College added on 5 more goals to end the half ahead by 3 after Kim Vrigian and Kaitlin Sheppard, who both started the half with goals, ended the half keeping their team in the game.
Cazenovia sparked right out of halftime with 3 immediate goals by Hannah Delaware, Abby Webster and Kaitlin Sheppard with an assist from Jessica Cramer putting the Wildcats back at a tie score of 8. Abby Webster then put out King's fire of a 4 goal streak shortly after with the Wildcats down 12-9 with over ten minutes remaining in the game. Three late goals by Kim Vrigian (1) and Jessica Cramer (2) giving the Wildcats a score of 12, was not enough to provide them with a win.
Vrigian and Sheppard led all Wildcats in scoring and combined for half of Cazenovia's points with a hat trick from each. Goalkeeper Abigail Kortz helped the Wildcats keep the score close with 5 saves.
The Wildcats hope to earn their first win of the season on Thursday March 27 at Christakos Field against Green Mountain College in the home opener.
