Wildcats Earn First Road Win at Wells
Cazenovia's Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Wells on Sunday breaking their road losing streak while also getting their first conference win (12-9) over the Express sending them (1-2) in the NEAC.
The Wildcats came out on fire, could not be stopped as they went on an early 8-0 lead. Abby Webster scored the first two goals within seconds in the start of the game having her lady Wildcats follow her lead as Jessica Cramer, Kaitlin Sheppard, Daejah Werntz, Cassie Smock, Kesley Farrell and Kim Vrigian all contributed to the eight goal run. A free position shot by Wells' Lexie Roberson ended the goal streak for Cazenovia sending the Wildcats into halftime with a comfortable 9-1 lead.
Cazenovia's hot hands started to cool down, as the Express looked for a late comeback in the second half. After scoring another 3 goals in the beginning of the second half by Webster, Werntz and Vrigian the Wildcats could not connect with the net again throughout the game. Cazenovia's defense got to see action as Wells answered back to the Wildcats with their own 8-0 run. Goalie Abigail Kortz had 7 out of her 8 saves in the second half and 20-23 shots on goal for wells happened in the second half as well. This effort by Wells was not enough for the win. Cazenovia kept their composure on the defensive end and kept Wells 3 goals short of a comeback.
"This was a complete team effort", said Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Lauren Pacelli.
NEAC competition Penn St. Abington will travel to Cazenovia on Saturday April 12th and give Cazenovia a chance to go (2-2) in the NEAC.
