Wildcats Roll Past Nittany Lions for Second Consecutive NEAC Win

Cazenovia, NY - The Wildcats women's lacrosse team improved to 2-2 in conference play on Saturday with a 25-13 win over NEAC foe Penn-State Abington.  Cazenovia opened the contest with a flurry of goals and never looked back handing the Nittany Lions their third conference loss of the season.

Cazenovia opened the scoring less than a minute into the contest when Abby Webster connected on her first of several goals on the afternoon.  The Wildcats weren't finished there scoring the game's next five goals.  Freshman Kaitlin Sheppard provided two goals, Daejah Werntz added one of her own and Webster rounded out the goal scoring with her second of the contest.
The Nittany Lions settled down after the quick Wildcats start scoring five of the games next seven goals to bring Abington within three (8-5).  It would however be as close as they would get as Cazenovia ended the first half with three of the games next four goals.  Senior Kimberly Vrigian added her second the half while Cassie Smock notched her first as the Wildcats headed into halftime with an 11-6 lead.
The second half opened as a back and forth affair as both teams traded goals for the first ten minutes of play.  With the Wildcats holding a 15-10 advantage midway through the second frame, Cazenovia buckled down and took full control of the contest.  The Wildcats went on to score the games next five and 10 of 11 goals to lead 25-11.  The scoring barrage included goals from six different Wildcat players.

Freshman goalkeeper Abigail Kortz finished the game with 10 saves on 23 shot attempts to pace the Wildcats defensively.  Sheppard and Vrigian provided the spark offensively scoring 13 of the Wildcats 25 goals.  Sheppard added seven while Vrigian poured in six.

The Wildcats will look to make it three in a row tomorrow afternoon as they host the Screaming Eagles of St. Elizabeth on Christakos Field at 1 pm.
